A young fighter inspires his family
Mum and dad, Alix and Gethin Edwards, are incredibly proud of their young son, Leo. Leo was born prematurely at 28 weeks at QMC with suspected problems with his heart and was rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, spending time on a ventilator and almost two months overall in the unit.
Gethin says: “We met some incredible people during our stay; both parents and staff. Little Leo had to have a blood transfusion and then was in and out of hospital with a viral infection and bronchiolitis. However, thanks to the dedication of the hospital teams he is now doing fine. Every time we take him to the consultant, she says he doesn’t look like he was a premature baby!
Gethin, who used to be an international althlete for Wales in his youth, has set about giving something back to the hospital by undertaking a clutch of charity Half-Marathons, Marathons and longer running challenges to raise funds for equipment Nottingham’s Hospitals children’s units.
“We have so much admiration for the staff there, we can’t thank them enough.”
