A new colourful mural has been unveiled at City Hospital’s Outpatients waiting area. The new piece, funded by our incredible supporter Adam Doran, celebrates the community spirit of our Hike for your Hospitals challenge, whilst paying tribute to Adam’s beloved wife Clare, who sadly lost her battle with cancer.
The artwork was designed by celebrated local artist Lynne Hollingsworth, who previously created another piece for the Stoma care team and Adam. Lynne incorporated the walking theme into the piece in recognition of the Hike for your Hospitals challenge taken on by Adam and his friends and family, whilst adding a delicate touch of her previous piece into the artwork.
Lynne spoke about the piece at the unveiling: “I’ve worked with Adam on the memorial piece outside Stoma and after that he raised so much money for Nottingham Hospitals Charity, which was amazing. I wanted to carry to create the same effect for the patients at Outpatients with a nod to Hike for your Hospitals which Adam raised a lot of money through.
“I think the piece is very purposeful and fills the space nicely. The impact it makes when you walk into the area is noticeable and it creates a full effect with the large windows which almost blend into the piece.”
Adam Doran has been supporting Nottingham Hospitals Charity since 2022 in memory of his wife Clare, who sadly passed away at Hayward House. Since then, he has helped raise over £50,000, which has helped support two murals and Clare’s Bears, which are given to bereaved families to remember their loved one.
Adam has taken on three mountain climbs as part of Hike for Your Hospitals and is planning a smaller one later this year.
He told us about the impact his fundraising has had: “It’s very humbling to know that we’ve reached over £50,000. It’s been the work of a lot of people and a lot of effort, and I’ve just played a small part in it. It’s amazing to see that all the hard work of my friends and family is helping to make a difference to people across the hospital.”
Talking about the new mural, he said: “I think the mural looks amazing. I’m really pleased with it, and it blends in really well and brightens the room up. Hopefully it will inspire people to sign up to Hike for your Hospitals and get involved in raising money for the charity.
“It’s a special piece and to bring a touch of the other mural into the artwork means so much and is a lovely tribute to Clare.”
