MEP supports Nottingham Hospitals Charity

East Midlands MEP Emma McClarkin has chosen to support Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Saving Lives Helipad Appeal through the sale of her Christmas Cards this year. Miss McClarkin orders her Christmas cards through Card Aid, an organisation which gives all its profits to charity, and selects a local cause to benefit from the funds raised.

Last year, Miss McClarkin supported the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance Charity – so the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal, which is raising £3 million to build an onsite helipad at Nottingham’s Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), was a logical choice for 2014.

Says Miss McClarkin: ‘I send out hundreds of Christmas Cards each year, and when I heard about the Card Aid initiative I realised what a great way it is of raising money for local charities.

‘This year I chose Nottingham Hospitals Charity, who do amazing work and are currently raising money for a helipad at QMC, which will help save time, to save lives. I hope that, as well as my cards raising money for them, people who receive my cards will also decide to donate to this very worthy cause.

‘My thanks to all at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, which is based at the QMC, for being such good sports and for all the life-saving work they do.’

The new helipad will enable the most seriously injured patients from across the region to be transferred to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre more quickly, saving valuable time. At the moment, patients complete their journey to the QMC by road, which can take up to 20 minutes. An onsite helipad will reduce this transfer time to less than 5 minutes.

Barbara Cathcart, Chief Executive of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: ‘We’re thrilled that Miss McClarkin has chosen our Saving Lives Helipad Appeal to benefit from the sale of her Christmas cards this year.

‘We need to raise £3 million for the new helipad at QMC, so I hope Miss McClarkin’s kind gesture will help us raise further awareness about this important appeal and that people are encouraged to help us by donating whatever they can.’
