This International Midwives Day, we’re delighted to welcome the Homebirth team at Nottingham University Hospitals to our team of Superstar Staff Fundraisers. A relatively new team, they celebrated their first birthday earlier this year and have already supported over 90 expectant families to experience the birth they wish for in the comfort of their own homes.
Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Nottingham Hospitals Charity has been able to help the Homebirth team provide:
Joanne Moore, Assistant Practitioner for the Homebirth team, shared how important this support has been:
"So far, the charity has helped us purchase 4 birthing pools and 10 new TENS units. The waiting list for the pools increases daily, so we are in constant need to maintain and renew them as they have a limit of 40 uses."
Joanne also highlighted how important the charity’s contributions have been in helping them support the families they serve:
"Without the charity, we would not have been able to support many of our women by loaning them pools and offering choices for their birthing preferences in the community. Being able to offer choice is imperative to creating positive individual birthing experiences."
As the demand for home births continues to grow, the Homebirth team is raising money through events like our Dragon Boat Race in July, where they’ll be competing as the ‘Homebirth Hellraisers’, and several members of the team will also be running in the Robin Hood Half Marathon in September.
They also held a 1st birthday celebration in March, where they raised funds through a raffle and preloved sale, with more fundraising ideas already in the pipeline for the summer and Christmas.
The charity’s support has allowed them to expand their services, and thanks to these fundraising efforts, they are making it possible for even more families to have the birth they desire.
