Celebrating our youngest superheroes this Super September

Blog by Alison Hayward, Community Fundraising Manager

This Super September, as local children go back to school, I can’t help but look back on some of our youngest fundraisers, and their incredible stories that have inspired so many people.

Last week we celebrated the launch of ‘Stand Up and Shine’, a charity single in aid of our Big iMRI Appeal, written and produced by Steve McGill, dad to Poppy. Poppy won over the nation’s hearts when she appeared on BBC’s Hospital in 2018, after being treated for a brain tumour. Since then she has inspired people to make a difference, with her Poppy Rocks supporters raising over £5,000!

It wouldn’t be Super September without Super George. After George was born with multiple, complex health conditions his parents have dedicated themselves to fundraising for a parent education room for the Neonatal Unit. So far they’ve raised a phenomenal £28,000. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported Super George’s Fundraising Army and wish Super George a SUPER birthday.

Earlier this year, little Larsen found a fun and unique way to raise money for the Big Appeal, to thank the staff at Nottingham Children’s Hospital for the care he’s been given there. He took part in a ‘slideathon’, where he travelled around the county sliding down a marathon 26 different slides in one day! Larsen and mum Holly raised over £2,900 – fantastic!

There are so many incredible young people doing and inspiring others to do fantastic fundraising to make a difference in their local hospital. If you have been inspired by their bravery, determination and generosity contact our fundraising team on charity@nuh.nhs.uk or visit our events page for ideas.
