The Hospital Heroes Challenge includes reading, baking, walking, running and ‘brave the no shave’ challenges. Participants can set up online fundraising pages and receive sponsorship from friends and family for taking on one or a variety of the challenges from home, over the course of four weeks.
The Hospital Heroes Challenge is part of our ‘Help your Hospital Heroes’ appeal, which launched on 20 March to support frontline NHS staff at Nottingham’s QMC and City Hospital during the coronavirus outbreak.
Money raised through the appeal is being used to provide everyday essentials, wellbeing support and special wellbeing rooms for NHS staff at Nottingham’s hospitals during this challenging time.
Louise Knight, Head of Fundraising at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, explained: “We’re very aware that people are keen to support their local NHS doctors, nurses and support staff at this trying time, but currently can’t fundraise through more traditional means such as public running events, cake sales or charity balls. That’s why we decided to launch our special Hospital Heroes Challenge where people can fundraise from home, in the knowledge that they are still making a tremendous difference to their local NHS.
“Not only are the challenges fun and easy to do from home, they can also be a welcome distraction from what’s happening in the world outside, and a good way to bring families and friends together through virtual fundraising.
“The baking and reading challenges are great ways to keep young children occupied and help them do something worthwhile, both learning new skills and raising money for their local hospitals at the same time. And the running and walking challenges encourage you to get out for your daily exercise, and keep a tally of your total miles covered. While the ‘brave the no shave’ challenge gives you a great opportunity not to pick up a razor for the next few weeks!
“However you choose to fundraise, you’ll be making a huge difference to the hardworking staff at Nottingham’s hospitals.”
