What is October Step Challenge?

Walk 12,000 steps a day this October – one step for every patient treated in Nottingham’s hospitals every single day – and raise money for your local NHS.

Queen’s Medical Centre, City Hospital, Nottingham Children’s Hospital and Ropewalk House collectively sees 12,000 patients every single day – that’s a whopping 4.5 million people every year!

In their honour, we’ll be stepping out this October, walking one step for every patient. Sign up today and raise money to support Nottingham's NHS hospitals.

You might be a patient yourself, have seen a loved one in hospital or even work for Nottingham’s NHS.

Whoever you are, in total you’ll walk 372,000 steps this October, and every step will represent a patient being treated right here in Nottingham.

Every step counts

We know that walking has numerous benefits for both our physical and mental wellbeing, and now you can make those steps count even more.

We’re asking every fundraiser to raise at least £75, and you can choose where your fundraising total is spent. Whether that’s for a particular Appeal, an area of the hospital that is closest to your heart, or wherever your donations are needed the most – your support will make a real difference to patient care.

Once you’ve completed your October Step Challenge, you’ll receive a commemorative certificate and if you reach £75, a limited edition medal to keep!

Your support could fund:

  • State-of-the-art equipment, to support the diagnosis and treatment of patients across all four of Nottingham’s hospitals
  • Wellbeing and psychological support packages for staff, who are working around the clock to keep our communities safe and healthy
  • Refurbishment of hospital wards, waiting areas and family rooms, to make a hospital stay more comfortable for patients and their loved ones
  • Play equipment, toys and sensory rooms for younger patients, to calm anxiety and make hospital feel less scary and daunting.
