We are committed to supporting staff development that enhances professional practice and leads to measurable improvements in patient care.

Our Staff Development grants are split into two categories:

  • Staff Development Grants
  • Service Development Grants

The information below outlines the difference between the two and signposts to which grant may be the most suitable.

Staff Development Grants

We are committed to supporting staff development that enhances professional practice and leads to measurable improvements in patient care. While individual learning is valued, funding must primarily benefit the wider team or service - not an individual’s personal Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Staff development requests must be a priority for the department and include plans to share learning with colleagues to improve patient care.

The proposed conference or training must be directly relevant to the applicant’s current role and lead to enhanced team working and better outcomes for patients.

Poster presentations alone do not guarantee approval.

Travel and accommodation will not be funded as standalone requests.

Any benefit to the individual must be incidental, not the main purpose of the funding

Only events taking place in the UK (England/Scotland/Wales/ Northern Ireland and Ireland) will be eligible for funding.

Service Development

Focus: Enhancing skills, knowledge, and teamwork to improve services.

We wish to support NUH staff to grow professionally through collaborative learning & teamwork that benefits service delivery and transformation.

The aim is to support “whole team” development that enhances practice and patient care; this can include opportunities outside the hospital or bringing in specialist trainers to share and disseminate best practice.

We encourage applications to be centred on:

Multidisciplinary training

Team-based learning

Simulation and collaborative skill-building

Time Outs

Applications will be considered for patient-facing staff, clinical or non-clinical, employed by NUH staff on permanent contracts.

Bank Staff are not eligible. Applications that included Fixed-term & honorary contracts will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Only events taking place in the UK (England/Scotland/Wales/ Northern Ireland and Ireland) will be eligible for funding.
