Staff wellbeing and development - how to apply

  • Staff wellbeing and development
  • Large appications are reviewed quarterly

We know that pressures on NHS staff remain at an all-time high, and staff wellbeing is of strategic importance.

Creating opportunities for staff to unwind, access support during distress and trauma, and take part in meaningful wellbeing activities is of huge value to both individuals and the wider organisation.

That’s why this programme exists,to invest in the health, resilience, and development of our staff across Nottingham’s NHS hospitals. We are committed to funding initiatives that improve wellbeing, strengthen teams, and enhance patient care through a healthier workforce.

Alongside support for large-scale wellbeing projects, smaller grants are also available to make a positive difference to staff morale, working life, and day-to-day wellbeing.

We are especially interested in projects that could make a difference across the Trust and fund ideas that go beyond standard NHS care, such as:

  • Trust-wide or Divisional initiatives impacting five or more Directorates
  • Programmes that support rest, recovery, and resilience for staff experiencing stress, distress, or trauma
  • Innovative wellbeing interventions that enhance physical, psychological, and lifestyle support
  • Access to nature-based wellbeing activities, including “NatureWell” sessions
  • Pilot schemes (up to one year) with clear plans for evaluation and future sustainability
  • Projects that enhance or expand existing wellbeing offers
  • Initiatives informed by a clear needs assessment or identified wellbeing gap

All projects must demonstrate best practice, be evidence-based where possible, and show clear, measurable improvements in staff wellbeing outcomes. Priority will be given to applications with Divisional support and those endorsed by the Trust’s Staff Wellbeing Committee.

Applications are invited via the Staff Wellbeing Committee. Call-outs will be issued twice annually, with application windows running from 1 March to 1 August and 1 October to 14 December.

All projects must demonstrate best practice, be evidence-based where possible, and show clear, measurable improvements in staff wellbeing outcomes.
