Why do people donate?

What makes us unique is the close connection our supporters can have with their local hospitals.

Why do people choose to donate?

Every year we raise over £4 million thanks to our generous supporters. These donations help us focus on the areas that matter most across the Trust, where we can make the biggest difference.

People choose to support our charity for many different reasons, and we are incredibly grateful for every donation, fundraiser, and act of generosity. For many, it’s a way of saying thank you -recognising the care they or their loved ones have received. For others, it’s about wanting to make a difference for future patients, families, and staff across Nottingham’s hospitals.

What makes us unique, compared to larger national charities, is the close connection our supporters can have with their local hospitals. We offer the opportunity, if people wish, to direct their support to the area that matters most to them. Many choose to give back to a specific ward, department, or service that has had a personal impact on their lives. Donations can be linked to these areas through dedicated funds, as well as to specific appeals or projects we are currently supporting.

For those who prefer to give more generally, donations can go into our general fund. This allows us to respond flexibly to where the need is greatest, ensuring we can support a wide range of projects and priorities across the Trust.

 People choose to donate because:

They are grateful for the care they or a loved one received

They hope research will lead to better treatments in the future

They want to make things better for patients and families who come after them

All donations are managed in line with charity guidelines to ensure transparency and impact. Where supporters express an interest in funding something specific, we work closely with hospital teams to ensure any plans meet our funding criteria. If wards or departments are approached directly, we encourage them to get in touch with us so we can guide and support the process. Further information about how funding works can be found on our individual grant pages.
