Patient Experience - how to apply

  • Grant programmes to enhance the patient experience
  • £25,000+

The Patient Experience Grant supports projects that make time in hospital better for patients, families and carers.

We are especially interested in projects that could make a difference across the Trust and fund ideas that go beyond standard NHS care, such as:

  • New or improved services
  • Activities for patients
  • Support for relatives and carers
  • Projects that improve patient wellbeing
  • Extra facilities, equipment or comforts

We are looking for innovative projects that could make a difference across the Trust. These should be evidence-based, have clear and measurable outcomes, and show how they will improve the experience of patients, families and carers.

Your application should clearly explain:

  • How the project will benefit patients
  • How it improves or enhances current services
  • Why it offers good value for money
  • How you will measure the impact
  • How the project provides a wider public benefit
  • Whether it includes improved facilities or equipment
  • If it is a one-year pilot project, what you hope to learn and achieve

We are particularly interested in projects that:

  • Could be used across more than one area of the Trust
  • Introduce a new idea or approach
  • Add something extra that is not currently available

Before you submit your application, it must be approved by your Divisional Director and supported by the Trust Lead for Patient Experience.

The amount you apply for will decide which grant process your application goes through - the responsive grant process or large grant process.

These applications are part of our Responsive Grant Programme.

  • Apply for up to £5000
  • Reviewed on a rolling basis
  • Designed for smaller projects and immediate needs
  • Aims to give faster decisions
  • Funding is subject to the grant criteria being met

If you’re looking to apply for a patient experience grant between £5,000 and £25,000, this would still fall under our Responsive Grants programme.

  • These grants are intended for projects that are relatively straightforward to deliver but may require a larger budget or a broader scope of activity.
  • Applications in this category are reviewed on a regular basis, allowing for a quicker turnaround than larger grant programmes.

These applications are classed as Large Grants.

  • For projects over £25,000
  • Reviewed every quarter
  • Suitable for larger projects or projects with wider impact across the Trust
  • Decisions take longer because they go through the Large Grant process
