Fifteen years of fantastic fundraising!

Big QMC Abseil 2021

Posted on: 10 Nov 2021

This week, we’re celebrating the 15th anniversary of Nottingham Hospitals Charity by looking back at all the fantastic fundraising events our supporters have undertaken over the past 15 years!

From glass walks and fire walks, to a Guinness World Record attempt, our amazing supporters have taken on some truly memorable fundraising challenges!

Back in May 2018 we held our biggest ever event, when over 1,100 Robin Hoods gathered together in Wollaton Park for our Robin’s Big World Record Attempt. We had a great day in the bank holiday sunshine meeting some of our incredible fundraisers and donors, and seeing everyone dressed as Nottingham’s greatest legend – all in support of our Big Appeal for Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

As well as enjoying a spot of fancy dress, our fundraisers have also shown themselves to be true daredevils over the years. In December 2009 dozens of brave fundraisers took on a glass walk in aid of Nottingham Hospitals – and the following November, many returned, joined by fellow adrenaline-seekers, for our first ever fire walk.

More recently, we’ve seen hundreds of supporters descend 100ft down the side of the Queen’s Medical Centre, as part of our annual Big QMC Abseil. The abseil is one of our most popular events, with 92 supporters taking on this year’s drop in September 2021 – raising a phenomenal £26,000.

Abseiler Alexis Tizzard, who took part with her mum Gail, said: “We both really enjoyed the experience and felt very safe throughout. We were pleased to take part in something fun, but also worthwhile, we would definitely do it again!! For me personally, my mum is such a wonderful inspiration and obviously where I get my thrill seeking streak from.”

Another popular annual event is our dragon boat race, which sees teams of corporate supporters, community groups and Nottingham Hospitals staff paddling down the River Trent in a race to be crowned dragon boat champions! Each year we’re blown away by the fantastic costumes and incredible determination shown by the paddlers!

As well as taking on our charity-organised fundraising events, our incredible fundraisers have also organised and taken on a whole host of events themselves. From Snowdon climbs to cycle rides, and baking competitions to Christmas jumper days, our super supporters never fail to amaze us with the lengths they go to in order to raise funds for Nottingham Hospitals.
