Consultant Andy Lunn named Charity Champion at NUH awards

Posted on: 20 Nov 2025

Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist Andy Lunn has been crowned the winner of this year’s Charity Champion Award at the NUH People First Recognition Awards.

This award shines a light on the thousands of hospital staff who give their time every year to support Nottingham Hospitals Charity through fundraising, volunteering, or helping to raise money for their own hospitals and services and few fit that description better than Andy!

Andy has gone to extraordinary lengths to support Nottingham Hospitals Charity over many years – quite literally.

Most recently, he completed an incredible 500-mile cycle around Kidney Lake in Canada, planned and completed in his own time with the aim of raising £5,000. By sharing updates from his journey on social media, Andy inspired patients, colleagues, and families alike, highlighting the difficult and lifelong journey many kidney patients face.

And his efforts don’t stop at his own challenges. Andy has also helped launch an ambitious campaign to raise £40,000 to celebrate 40 years of the children’s kidney service. Thanks to his enthusiasm and leadership, both patients and staff have taken on their own fundraising challenges to support the cause – with more events and activities planned in 2026.

Nigel Gregory, CEO of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled to see Andy recognised with this award. His fundraising commitment is not only personal – with Andy taking on challenges across the world – but truly inspiring to others across his team and beyond. His leadership helped kickstart an ambitious £40,000 fundraising target to celebrate 40 years of the children’s kidney service, motivating colleagues, patients and families to get involved. Andy is a shining example of the incredible impact NHS staff can have when they give their time, energy and passion to support others, and we are immensely proud to celebrate his achievement.”

The Charity are proud supporters of the Children's Kidney Network, helping fund activity that improves the lives of young patients and their families. This includes supporting staff and young athletes to attend the British Transplant Games each year, where they are able to compete, build confidence and meet others who understand their journey. This year was no exception - with the Nottingham teams returning home with medals, and some even being scouted for national teams!

A huge Congratulations to Andy – and thank you for the energy and inspiration you bring to fundraising at Nottingham Hospitals Charity. Your incredible efforts are helping ensure more patients and families receive outstanding care and support for years to come.

A huge well done to the rest of this year’s Charity Champion shortlist. You can read about the full shortlist and the amazing work of nominees here.
