Shining a spotlight on Kinder Crew’s British Transplant Games success this Organ Donation Week

This Organ Donation Week, Nottingham Hospitals Charity is celebrating the incredible gift of life and the amazing people who make it possible.

We’re shining a spotlight on a very special team who headed to Oxford this summer - a team united by one thing: organ donation! Whether as recipients of life-saving organs or as generous living donors, these athletes, along with their families and hospital staff, came together to compete with teams from across the country at the British Transplant Games.

The British Transplant Games allow transplant patients, their loved ones, and living donors to connect, share experiences, and celebrate the life-saving impact of organ donation. We are proud to be longstanding supporters of the Transplant Games, helping make last year’s home games in Nottingham a reality and continuing to support Nottingham’s adult and children’s teams to take part each year.

This year, alongside the Nottingham adult team, we supported a team of 18 young transplant recipients and 5 living donors to attend the British Transplant Games in Oxford.

Over four action-packed days, team ‘Kinder Crew’ competed in sports including athletics, swimming, golf, badminton, and more, while also enjoying social activities and team adventures, bringing home an impressive 21 medals (6 gold, 7 silver, and 8 bronze) and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

There were standout performances too: several athletes not only won medals but also secured invitations to represent the UK at the World Transplant Games in Dresden later this year. A younger member of the team was even scouted by the UK badminton team.

From the Opening Ceremony at Blenheim Palace to the Donor Run at sunset, the Games highlighted the courage of transplant recipients and the generosity of donors.
