Nottingham Hospitals Charity is asking people across Nottinghamshire and beyond to walk 12,000 steps a day this October – one for every patient treated at Nottingham’s NHS hospitals every single day.

By taking part in the October Step Challenge, you can fundraise for the whole of Nottingham’s NHS hospitals, which includes Queen’s Medical Centre, City Hospital, Nottingham Children’s Hospital and Ropewalk House.

Staff at Nottingham’s hospitals help treat on average 12,000 patients each day – totalling 4.5 million each year – and we want you to walk 12,000 steps each day throughout October in their honour. It totals 372,000 steps over the course of the month.

Joanne Burr, Community and Corporate Fundraising Manager at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We know that walking has numerous benefits for both our physical and mental wellbeing, and this October you can make those steps count even more.

“The money you raise through the October Step Challenge could help fund things like specialist medical equipment, improvements to the hospital environment, local research, or things like play equipment for younger patients and arts activities for older patients.

“Every step you take as part of the October Step Challenge will help patients and staff in your chosen area of Nottingham’s NHS hospitals.”

Each fundraiser is asked to raise at least £75, and those who reach the fundraising target will receive a limited edition medal at the end of the challenge as a special thank you.

Join our October Step Challenge Facebook group to meet your fellow fundraisers. You'll receive a free October Step Challenge pack, which includes a step tracker and a exclusive badge.
