Smiles all round at our first ever Robin Run 5k and Family Fun Day

All the fundraisers at the Robin Run throw their hands up in celebration

On Sunday 19th May, hundreds of fundraisers gathered at Sherwood Pines to take part in our first ever Robin Run 5k and Family Fun Day. Amongst the cheers and smiles, families from across Nottingham came together to help raise money for the Big Appeal for Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

Participants of all ages came together to take on a 5K run around the scenic trails of the forest. Everyone from runners who were aiming to beat their own personal best, to those taking on their first running challenge took part. There were smiles all round at the finish line as friends and families were there to greet the participants as they received their well-earned medals alongside our giant Robin mascot.

As well as the 5k run, there was a family friendly one-mile walk, which took place throughout the day and had hidden animals and clues for children to find and solve in order to receive a prize.

With the support of our incredible volunteers, families who attended the day were able to take part in special craft projects and have their faces painted as their favourite woodland characters.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to the team from the Maternity and Neonatal Redesign team who helped set up a tombola, with all proceeds going towards the new Neonatal Unit as part of the Big Appeal.

Joanne Burr, Relationship and Events Team Leader at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said: “We were delighted to welcome almost 300 people to our very first Robin Run, it was a fantastic event. We were surrounded by beautiful woodland scenery and glorious sunshine and a great day was enjoyed by all. Thanks to our runners and walkers, the Robin Run 5k and Family Fun Day has raised nearly £11,000 for the Big Appeal, which is fantastic. This money will help provide specialist equipment for babies and children so they receive the best care. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part!”

The event brought staff, families and the local community together to make a big difference. We look forward to doing it all again in 2025!
