Last week, Nottingham’s Robin Hood Half Marathon saw over 122 runners take on the 13.1-mile challenge in support of Nottingham Hospitals Charity. From families to first-time runners, participants all had their own personal reasons for taking part.
Among them were Matthew and Lewis, two brothers from Nottingham. Matthew’s son Mason had undergone life-saving care after being born with a rare tracheoesophageal fistula.
Determined to give back to the NHS, Matthew and Lewis trained hard and ran to raise funds for the hospital that saved Mason’s life.
Since completing the half marathon, the pair have raised over £3800 for Nottingham's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Also running was Rhiannon, who was inspired to take on the challenge after witnessing the life-changing care her sister’s partner, Luke, received at Linden Lodge Rehabilitation Unit.
Rhiannon had already completed one half marathon and took on her second to thank the teams across Nottingham’s hospitals.
Family spirit provided a powerful motivation for many runners including eight members of the Underwood family, who joined forces to take on the Robin Hood Half Marathon in memory of loved ones cared for at Hayward House. Husband and wife Anthony and Lucy Underwood, together with their children, grandchildren, and other family members, ran to honour Anthony’s father David and Lucy’s mother Linda.

Holly Vincent, Community Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, said:
"It was fantastic to see so many runners, over 100 plus our mini-marathon participants, coming together to take on this challenge for Nottingham’s NHS hospitals. Everyone had a personal reason and motivation for taking part, and we were proud of each and every one of them."
