Nottingham Forest Ladies and netball teams visit Nottingham Breast Institute to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, players from the Nottingham Forest Ladies and Netball teams visited the Nottingham Breast Institute (NBI) to learn more about breast cancer awareness, meet staff, and share their own experiences.

Their visit highlighted the incredible work taking place at the NBI - and how generous donations to Nottingham Hospitals Charity are helping to improve diagnosis, treatment, and support for breast cancer patients right here in Nottingham.

Being diagnosed with breast cancer can be a frightening experience, but thanks to your support, we’re helping colleagues across Nottingham’s hospitals provide the very best care - from early diagnosis and treatment to recovery and post-treatment wellbeing.

During the visit, the teams were given a behind-the-scenes tour of some of the incredible projects and equipment funded by our supporters. From life-saving technology and cutting-edge research to welcoming, calming spaces for patients and families. 

How your donations support the Nottingham Breast Institute

• Pioneering breast cancer research : With your help, we’ve supported Professor Stephen Chan’s research by funding a specialist gene test that identifies the most effective cancer treatments, allowing clinicians to personalise care for each patient.
• Faster, more accurate diagnoses: A specialist Contrast Injector System, funded by donations, provides clearer imaging of breast tissue, reducing the need for biopsies and MRIs.
• Confidence and comfort for post-surgery patients: The NBI’s bespoke Bra Shop offers well-fitting bras for patients after mastectomy, including those unable to visit the shop in person.
• Creating calming spaces: Thanks to community fundraisers such as the organisers of the Black and Green Ball, we’ve transformed the NBI’s waiting area with new artwork and furniture, helping patients feel more relaxed before treatment.
• Small equipment, big impact: We’ve provided advanced microscopes that enable pathologists to deliver faster, more accurate biopsy results — helping patients receive their diagnosis sooner.

These projects, and many more, have only been possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, fundraisers, and those honouring loved ones affected by breast cancer.
