Amidst the rolling greens of Wollaton Park Golf Club and under cloudy skies, businesses, supporters and NHS staff from the East Midlands came together on Friday 24th May for a day of friendly competition and compassion, as our highly anticipated Charity Golf Day returned to make a difference to young patients at Nottingham Children’s Hospital.

Golfers were invited to a special breakfast before teeing off for a challenging 18-hole round of golf, with every swing making a difference. From those who play golf regularly to novice players, everyone who joined in on the day shared the same purpose of supporting our Big Appeal.

Throughout the day, golfers took on the scenic course in teams of four, navigating tricky holes whilst enjoying conversation and laughs with their teammates. Halfway around the course, participants enjoyed refreshments, which were kindly sponsored by HW Martin (Traffic Management) and given out by our two amazing volunteers, Jackie and Pauline.

With the support of Ideal Services Group, we were also able to run competitions including Nearest the Pin, Longest Drive and a special putting competition.

After all the golfers completed their round, they were invited back to the club house for a two-course meal and to hear from Dr Lleona Lee, a Consultant Neonatologist and Clinical Lead for the Maternity and Neonatal Redesign Programme.

There was also a raffle held which included prizes from Porsche Nottingham, Wollaton Park Golf Club, Radcliffe On Trent Golf Club, Rushcliffe Golf Club, Zaap Thai Street Food, Nottingham Panthers and Nottingham Tennis Club amongst many others.

Nelsons Solicitors was named the overall winner on the day, FC Cartons named second and Team Awesome coming in third. Tom Powell took home the longest drive competition trophy. Steve Glennon won the 'closest to the pin' competition and Spencer Bell won the putting competition, both receiving trophies too.

A huge thank you to all the companies that came along and supported our Charity Golf Day, including exi Group, Nelsons Solicitors, Rocket Global, Ideal Services Group, British Gypsum, Acorn Aluminium, HW Martin (Traffic Management), Handelsbanken, FC Cartons, and Porsche Nottingham.

Sophie Parkins, Corporate Relationship & Events Manager, said: “What a fantastic day! We are so grateful to all the participants today, as well as our generous sponsors, guest speakers and volunteers. Money raised from the event will make an incredible difference to the families and children at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. Thank you to all involved for supporting the Big Appeal, and our Charity Golf Day.”

It was a great event and fun for everyone involved, and the collective efforts of all our teams will help make a difference to some of Nottingham’s youngest patients. Watch this space for details of next year’s event!
