On Saturday 6th May, as a country we will come together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
Alongside our colleagues at Nottingham hospitals, we’ll be celebrating this momentous occasion as our hospitals have a special connection with King Charles III.
King Charles III was once a patient at the Queen’s Medical Centre for a week in 1990 after suffering an injury during a polo match. Since then he has kept close links with the hospital: he opened the Day Case Unit and Theatre Service Centre in 1992, and returned in 1999 to open the Multi-faith Centre. He revisited QMC in 2004 to open the Accident and Emergency Department.

Hold a Coronation Big Lunch
The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country on Sunday 7th May 2023. You could hold a cake sale or bake-off style competition and raise money for Nottingham’s NHS hospitals at the same time.
Take part in the Big Help Out
On Monday 8th May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in the Big Help Out, which will encourage people to join in with work being undertaken to support their local communities. You could take a look at our Do Your Own Thing page and help raise funds for your local hospital.
Host a Kings and Queens day at work
If you are working over the Coronation weekend, why not get your colleagues involved and host a Kings and Queens headgear day to raise funds? Participants can pay £1 to get involved and you can donate the proceeds to your local hospitals. Pop on your best tiara and give a prize to best dressed!
