An unusual sight could be seen at the Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in September as two of our brave abseilers took on the challenge dressed as children’s television characters. Hannah Moss and Peter Fowlie braved the 100-foot drop dressed as SuperTed and SpongeBob SquarePants all in aid of Ward E39. They shared their reason for braving the drop.
“At the start of August, our closest friends’ son, Ted, went to A&E after his parents discovered a lump on his neck whilst he was away on holiday. He didn’t seem ‘sick’ but after scans, biopsies, and tests, the medical team had to deliver the most unbelievable and heartbreaking news to his parents. Ted was diagnosed with T Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, a rare and aggressive cancer.
Since his diagnosis, Ted and his family have been surrounded by the most incredible care at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. The oncology team on Ward E39 has been nothing short of phenomenal. They’ve been so compassionate, skilled, and truly world-class and helped Ted and his parents feel more comfortable during this unimaginable time.
We decided to raise money to give back to this amazing ward that has now been a huge part of Ted’s journey. Their work changes lives, and we want to help them continue supporting children and families through the toughest times.
Ted has begun his long road to recovery, and he’s been absolutely amazing every step of the way. His courage and resilience inspire us daily. So, in true Ted spirit, we took on the Big QMC Abseil dressed as SuperTed and SpongeBob SquarePants (his brilliant idea!).
It was such a great event and lovely to be a part of. It’s amazing that such an event can raise so much money for the hospital.
Knowing that it’s nothing compared to what the children on E39 and their families face every day. Ted, you really are our own Super Ted!”
We’re so grateful to Hannah and Peter for facing their fears and helping make a difference to young patients at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. You can still donate to their JustGiving page here.
