‘Think Pink’ for Nottingham Breast Institute this Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Naomi WaltersOur Senior Community Fundraiser, Naomi, talks about the success of our Breast Institute fundraisers this year and all of opportunities open to people who want to fundraise in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

2018 has been a record-breaking year for Breast Cancer fundraisers at Nottingham Hospitals Charity. October has only just begun and, already, two incredible teams of fundraisers have raised over £50,000 for a new state-of-the-art mammography machine for Nottingham Breast Institute. The Black and Green Ball saw the community of Radcliffe-on-Trent raise over £22,000!  And an incredible cycling team has raised a further £30,000 (and counting!). This year we also celebrated the 10th year of fundraising by our super supporter, Joan Charlett.

To celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month this year, Nottingham Breast Institute is hosting a Think Pink Day on Sunday 7th October. There will be a whole range of stalls, activities and food, all raising money to support Breast Institute patients and their families. It’s a free event, and everyone is welcome. You’ll also have the opportunity to look around the Breast Institute, find out more about breast cancer support in Nottingham, and meet Breast Institute staff and its fabulous supporters.

The Bra Shop, based at the Breast Institute, provides a supportive environment for women who’ve had a mastectomy to buy suitable bras.

As a member of the Charity’s fundraising team, I’m constantly inspired by our community of breast cancer fundraisers. They’ve worked incredibly hard this year, and have achieved so much! Between them, they’re supporting Professor Chan’s ground-breaking research into bespoke breast cancer treatment, funding important facilities like the hospital-based bra shop, and helping us purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment!

Every one of our supporters is impacting the lives of thousands of mums, daughters, sisters, aunties, colleagues and friends across Nottinghamshire – now and in the future.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so if you’ve ever wanted to fundraise for breast cancer care in Nottingham – now is your chance!

We’ve a whole range of fundraising events for you to sign up to: from skydives, to running or cycling events, to an Inca Trail trek!

Sallyann Petts has fundraised for Professor Chan’s research for seven years

Or, you could take a leaf out of Sallyann Petts’ book and create your own event! Sallyann is a breast cancer survivor and every year, for the past seven years, she’s hosted a Strawberry Afternoon Tea for family and friends. Sallyann’s event has grown year on year. This year, over 300 guests attended and together raised £1,973.00 for Professor Chan’s research!

We’re always happy to speak to fundraisers about their events. We can offer advice, handy tips, and materials to help boost your fundraising – plus that much-needed moral support!
