Forty-five runners raised more than £3,500 for Nottingham Hospitals Charity in this month’s Nottingham 10k race, beginning and ending in the city’s Old Market Square and taking in sights including Nottingham Castle, the historic Lace Market and the River Trent.
NCH were charity partners for the flagship race which is the newest addition to Run For All’s popular Asda Foundation 10k Series.
Each of the runners had their own personal reason for supporting Nottingham’s hospitals. Jeff Coulson had set himself a challenge of running 500 miles in 2016, with the Nottingham 10k making up six of those miles. He has already raised more than £764 for the Neonatal Unit at Queen’s Medical Centre, which he chose to support after his son Oscar was born on the unit.
Jeff says: “These guys with their care and equipment supported Cassie and I with the world’s greatest gift – Oscar. If I can raise a small amount of money that helps one child get the help they need then we’ve changed a life. Small steps make big changes.”
Several of Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s own staff took part in the challenge. Alison Hayward, Charity Assistant, says: “I loved the Nottingham 10k and the chance to see the streets of the city I grew up in from a totally different perspective. I also managed to beat my personal best by exactly six minutes, despite all of the hills! It was a really great day.”
Joanne Benbow, Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospitals Charity, says: “It is great that a race so connected to the city should offer its runners the chance to fundraise for their local hospitals! Thank you to each and every one of our runners for supporting the area of Nottingham’s hospitals that is closest to their heart, and thanks to Run For All for a brilliant day! Planning was smooth and the atmosphere was great on the day with so many runners in Market Square. We were really grateful to be charity partners, and we already can’t wait for next year.”
