Nottingham Hospitals Charity teams up with Run or Dye

Run or Dye 1Nottingham Hospitals Charity has been chosen as one of the official charity partners for the Run or Dye Nottingham 5k event on Saturday 11 October 2014. Run or Dye will be supporting the Charity’s Saving Lives Helipad Appeal, which is raising £3m to build an onsite helipad at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).

We’re delighted that Run or Dye UK is supporting our Saving Lives Helipad Appeal,’ says Daniel Craggs, Senior Community Fundraiser at Nottingham Hospitals Charity. ‘They’ve generously given us 10 free places for the Run or Dye Nottingham 5k race, and set up a special Kickback code that lets runners donate £3 to the Helipad Appeal when they enter online.’

About the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal

Time is of the essence for critically-injured patients, and getting patients to hospital quickly in an emergency is vital. There is currently no dedicated landing pad at QMC, with helicopters having to land close by and patients complete their journey by road, which can take up to 20 minutes. Having an onsite helipad will reduce this transfer time to less than five minutes and get the most seriously injured trauma patients directly to our Major Trauma Centre, where specialist teams are available 24/7 to save lives.

Adds Daniel: ‘We’re asking communities from across the East Midlands to support the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal and help us raise £3m to make the new helipad become a reality. The lives of over 140 patients who wouldn’t otherwise have survived have been saved since QMC became the region’s Major Trauma Centre in 2012. Having an onsite helipad will help save more lives.’

Nathan Beardsley 3 Oct 2014Forest’s Fitness Coach lends support

Nathan Beardsley, Fitness Coach at Nottingham Forest FC, was quick to sign up for one of the Charity’s 10 free places when he heard about the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal.

I’m a keen runner so had been planning to enter Run or Dye anyway,’ says Nathan, who lives in Newark. ‘A close friend had a lucky escape from an accident – and if it wasn’t for the air ambulance and the specialist teams at the Major Trauma Centre, they might not have made it. I’m delighted to be showing my support for the Helipad Appeal by taking part in Run or Dye next Saturday.’

Nathan has set up an Everyday Hero page to collect donations for his Run or Dye fundraising efforts. You can donate today by visiting https://savinglives.everydayhero.com/uk/nathan-beardsley.
