Mum Andrea Gregorich is one of the many thankful parents with children at Nottingham Children’s Hospital who are welcoming newly refurbished onsite family accommodation, funded by the Big Appeal. Overnight accommodation is provided at the hospital for mums and dads to stay within minutes of children on critical care wards. These vital rooms which provide a 24/7 family link have now been refurbished as part of the Big Appeal which was launched by Nottingham Hospitals Charity to upgrade facilities and enhance equipment at the hospital, based at QMC.
Andrea whose ten-month old daughter Ella Grace is now a bouncing bundle of energy, has seen her little girl spend months on the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital. Andrea firmly believes that because she was able to stay so close to Ella Grace she could help her survive the many crises she faced and to develop better than all expectations.
Ella Grace has endured heart and respiratory problems and Andrea said: “We have been at Nottingham Children’s Hospital for just over five months and being able to be near Ella has been a huge weight off my mind. It’s incredible to have these fantastic facilities, which include a kitchen, as well as a comfortable room to stay. And it allows a place for Ella’s brothers to come when they visit her at weekends. Ella is recovering well and we hope she will be discharged home later this month.”
The refurbished rooms in the main family accommodation area at Nottingham Children’s Hospital are being officially re-opened on 12 March when families will be joining Charity and clinical teams. Importantly, the re-opening will be the first opportunity for the many generous sponsors who have donated towards the refurbishment to visit the upgraded accommodation.
Following the successful completion of fundraising for the family accommodation refurbishment, Nottingham Hospitals Charity launched the next Big Appeal phase to raise funds for a new paediatric iMRI scanner. Due for completion by summer 2019 the charity is encouraging members of the public to help in a final push to get the remaining £100,000 that will help the charity reach the £1.2 million target for the Big iMRI Appeal. Supporters can donate by texting ‘NUHC13’ and your chosen amount of either £1, £2, £3, £5 or £10 to 70070, or can visit the Big iMRI Appeal webpage.
